Chisel is built privacy-first. The short version: **Chisel does not collect,
store, or transmit any of your personal data. Nothing you type ever leaves your
iPhone.** This policy explains exactly how, and what the few technical
permissions actually do.

calls. It works fully in Airplane Mode.

assistant run locally using Apple's on-device Foundation Model. Your text is
processed on your iPhone and is never sent anywhere.
When you use an AI feature (Proofread, Rewrite, Translate, Autocomplete, or the
Assistant), the relevant text is passed to **Apple's on-device Foundation
Model**, which runs entirely on your iPhone. The result is returned to the text
field. **Your text is not uploaded, logged, or retained by Chisel or by anyone
else.** When you close the keyboard, the text of that session is not kept —
with one exception you fully control: the assistant's memory, described below.
The text you type is never stored by Chisel beyond what iOS temporarily holds
in the active text field, which you already control.
After a conversation with the keyboard assistant, Chisel may extract **durable
facts you told it about yourself** (for example your name, occupation, or a
language you're learning) so the assistant can remember you next time. This
happens entirely on your iPhone, using the same on-device model:
They are never uploaded — Chisel has no servers to upload them to.
Settings → Assistant memory, including a one-tap "Forget everything".
Chisel saves a small amount of information locally, in your app's private
storage (an iOS "App Group" container). This data never leaves your device
and is not accessible to us or anyone else:
usage counters.
This uses the standard iOS UserDefaults API, declared to Apple under the
"required reason" category CA92.1 (accessing the app's own group container).
You can erase all of it at any time by deleting the app.
Chisel offers one optional in-app purchase (a one-time unlock for the AI
features). Payment is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store using
StoreKit. Chisel never sees your payment details, card, or Apple ID. We only
receive, on-device, a yes/no signal from Apple about whether the unlock has been
purchased. Refunds and receipts are managed by Apple.
iOS lets you grant a keyboard "Full Access". In Chisel this is **off by
default** and entirely your choice. It is used only to:
**Even with Full Access enabled, Chisel still makes no network calls and sends
nothing anywhere.** The clipboard is read only at the moment you tap the button —
never in the background. If you never enable Full Access, every feature except
vibration still works.
The keyboard assistant can read its replies aloud using Apple's built-in
text-to-speech voices (AVSpeechSynthesizer), which run on-device. This is
audio output only. Chisel does not and cannot record audio or use the
microphone.
Chisel is rated 4+ and is safe for all ages. It collects no personal data from
anyone, including children.
Chisel uses no third-party analytics, advertising, or data-sharing services.
The only external party involved is Apple, which provides the on-device AI
model, the text-to-speech voices, and App Store payment — all governed by
[Apple's own privacy policy](https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/).
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new
"Last updated" date. Because Chisel collects no data, we do not anticipate
material changes.
